RAPOSA, MARANHÃO, BRAZIL – JULY 9, 2026 Sixty-year-old Anayldes Gouveia Ribeiro Silva died after being hit by a vehicle that started moving on its own without a driver. The tragedy occurred after a black Hyundai Azera was parked in front of a bakery and, according to investigators, was left in neutral and without the parking brake engaged.

A small child was inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. The car then began moving uncontrollably along the road. According to camera footage, the driver, Luis Paulo Braga da Silva (36), attempted to run after the vehicle and stop it, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle struck Anayldes Gouveia Ribeiro Silva, who was waiting at a bus stop, and then continued for several more meters before hitting a tree.

The woman suffered very serious injuries in the impact, including severe injuries to both legs and a head injury. Emergency responders provided first aid and transported her to a hospital, but she died from her injuries during transport.
After the accident, the driver left the scene after taking the child from the vehicle. According to media reports, he later turned himself in to police and provided an explanation. Police began investigating the case as possible negligent manslaughter related to vehicle operation.
