RIO BRANCO, ACRE, BRAZIL – JULY 28, 2026 Tragic traffic accident occurred on the Brazilian highway BR-364, known as Via Verde, near the Terceira Ponte area in the Praia do Amapá neighborhood. A 47-year-old woman, Marileia Ferreira dos Santos, died in a collision between a motorcycle and a truck transporting cattle.

Marileia was traveling as a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her husband, Altemir de Souza Menezes, also 47 years old. According to witness statements, Altemir attempted to turn left at a location where such a maneuver is prohibited by traffic signs.
During the turn, the motorcycle collided with a cattle transport truck that was traveling on the main road. The force of the impact was so strong that, according to local media reports, the motorcycle and both occupants were dragged approximately 65 feet (20 meters) along the roadway.
Marileia suffered extremely serious injuries in the crash, including severe head trauma and multiple fractures. According to available information, she died at the scene before emergency responders arrived.
Her husband, Altemir de Souza Menezes, survived the crash. He suffered extensive abrasions across his body and a fracture of his right shoulder blade. Rescue workers from the SAMU emergency service provided medical assistance, but according to witnesses, the man refused to immediately leave the scene and remained beside his wife’s body until authorities completed their work.
Shortly after the accident, a video recorded by one of the witnesses began circulating on social media. The footage shows a devastated Altemir mourning over his wife’s mutilated body. The video captures an emotionally intense moment immediately after the crash.
The truck driver did not leave the scene after the accident. He remained there, provided information to authorities, and cooperated with the investigation. Police closed the area while forensic investigators and traffic experts carried out their work. Marileia Ferreira dos Santos’ body was later taken to the Instituto Médico Legal (IML) for an autopsy.
