NEGOMBO, WESTERN PROVINCE, SRI LANKA – JULY 29, 2026 Two young motorcyclists were killed in a tragic accident in the Bolawalana area on the Negombo-Minuwangoda Road. According to available information, they were traveling at high speed toward Negombo when they collided with a container truck that was turning across the road.
The victims were 18-year-old Thalisha Nimneth Siriwardena and 19-year-old Kavindu Hashan Somathilaka, both from the Dagonna area of Negombo. Both suffered fatal injuries in the extremely devastating collision and died at the scene.
According to descriptions of the accident footage, the impact was extraordinarily devastating. One of the motorcyclists suffered an almost complete traumatic amputation of his torso at the waist, leaving his body divided into two parts. The other was decapitated in the collision and lost his head.
The owner of the container truck later stated that he believed the two motorcyclists were racing and approaching at an extreme speed. He estimated their speed at approximately 100 to 110 mph (160 to 180 kph). After the accident, a crowd gathered at the scene, attacked the driver and his assistant, and subsequently set the container truck on fire. Police later arrested several people in connection with the assault and arson. The container truck driver himself, 29-year-old Udita Dilanka Nirmala, was arrested and later released on bail.
