NAGUA, MARÍA TRINIDAD SÁNCHEZ, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – JUNE 14, 2026 31-year-old police officer Gerson Núñez Rosario was shot dead at a betting shop in Nagua, Dominican Republic, where he worked as a security guard. Around noon, 30-year-old Julio Francisco Núñez Villa entered the establishment, approached the seated police officer, and fired several shots at him without any prior verbal confrontation. Núñez Rosario died from his gunshot wounds. The attack was captured by security cameras and witnessed by employees and customers.

According to investigators, the attack may have been connected to an earlier personal conflict between the two men. On May 4, Gerson Núñez Rosario had shot Núñez Villa during a previous incident. According to some reports, the officer was even suspended from duty at the time of his shooting in connection with this case.
Two days after the shooting, Julio Francisco Núñez Villa turned himself in at a police station. He was later ordered by a court to spend three months in pretrial detention in connection with the murder charges in the killing of Gerson Núñez Rosario.
