TACNA, PERU – SEPTEMBER 8, 2026 83-year-old Cayetano Copaja Ticona died after being run over by a dump truck at the intersection of Avenida Jorge Basadre and Prolongación Patricio Meléndez. He suffered devastating injuries in the collision, and his body was completely crushed, with his internal organs protruding. He died at the scene.
Police identified the truck driver as Elfer Nina Cahuana, 46, and detained him for investigation on suspicion of negligent homicide. Security camera footage from the surrounding area is expected to help clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.
