KATIHAR, BIHAR, INDIA – OCTOBER 5, 2026 35-year-old lawyer Azimuddin Ansari, also known as Guddu Ansari, was brutally murdered in broad daylight. Ansari was riding a scooter toward the Katihar court when a group of men attacked him near Patel Chowk in the Kumhar Toli area. According to police, the attackers first assaulted him with a knife and knocked him off the scooter, after which one of them shot him. Some reports say he was shot in the temple area, while others describe a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police subsequently arrested Mohammad Rehan (21), Mohammad Ashfaq (23), Inayat (20), Mohammad Mahfuz (19) and Munna alias Akhtar (42). According to investigators, Rehan attacked Ansari with a knife, Ashfaq assaulted him with a belt and knocked him off the scooter, while Mohammad Muzammil alias Khokha, who allegedly fired the shot, remains at large. Another wanted suspect is Mohammad Aslam.
Police cite a long-running dispute over an access road involving Ansari’s sister as the likely motive. Investigators are also looking into an earlier confrontation between Ansari and Muzammil that allegedly took place on court premises.
