SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – JANUARY 2, 2018 Keila Pernia Álvarez, a 28-year-old Venezuelan, arrived as a migrant in the Dominican Republic. She had only been in the country a few days when she disappeared. Unfortunately, the search for her did not have a happy ending. A few days later, her dead body was found in the Higuamo River. It was discovered that she had been strangled with a cable.
