VIETNAM 89-year-old elderly woman became the victim of an attack by stray dogs. They knocked her to the ground and practically ate her entire face. It is unclear whether she survived the attack.
Stray dogs are a problem in Vietnam and throughout Southeast Asia. The culture of dog ownership there is different from in the USA, and dogs are often let outside unsupervised, where they breed uncontrollably. Although attacks on people do not happen often, they can occur if the dogs feel threatened or are sick (rabies).
If you are traveling to this area, it is recommended to avoid any contact with stray dogs. Keep a stick, umbrella, or any long object at hand to fend them off. If an attack happens, always protect your head and neck.
