APARTADÓ, ANTIOQUIA, COLOMBIA – MAY 20, 2025 20-year-old José Daniel Varela Mejía was attacked by a group of at least five attackers armed with machetes in the Ortiz neighborhood. They seriously injured him and he shortly after bled to death. The horrific moment was recorded by a security camera.

According to all available information, the victim was recently released from prison, where he was held for involvement in three murders in the same town. The fatal attack thus appears to be some kind of revenge by local residents. However, these are unofficial information, and the case is still under police investigation, which is reviewing the video footage to identify all perpetrators.
