SALVADOR, BAHIA, BRAZIL – MAY 25, 2023 In the early morning hours, armed and masked men broke into a house in Loteamento Pôr do Sol in the Cassange neighborhood. Three members of the same family were sleeping inside the house at the time. The attackers opened fire and hit everyone present.
Girlene Pereira dos Santos (40) and her daughter-in-law Célia Santos Maia (31) died at the scene. Both women suffered gunshot wounds that proved fatal.

Girlene Pereira dos Santos’ husband survived the attack despite also being shot in the leg. After the shooting, he managed to hide in another room of the house. The injured man was later found by neighbors and taken to an emergency department before being transferred to a hospital.
Police were called to the house at around 2:15 a.m. and subsequently secured the scene. The case was taken up by the Homicide Investigation Department (DHPP). So far, there is no information about the identity of the perpetrators or their motive.
