SORONG, WEST PAPUA, INDONESIA – JANUARY 24, 2023 Enraged mob lynched and burned a woman alive. She was accused of being a member of an organized child kidnapping group in the Papua region. A police officer was present at the scene, who tried to protect the victim, but he had no chance to protect her against such overwhelming force.
Later it turned out that the woman was innocent. She had a mental disorder and only remotely resembled one of the members of the child kidnapping gang. In connection with this incident, 8 people who participated in her torturous death were arrested.
This tragic event highlights the dangers of mob justice, which can often lead to irreversible mistakes. While some may feel that street justice delivers faster results than the legal system, this case is a harsh reminder that only due legal process can ensure true justice and prevent innocent lives from being lost to chaos and hysteria.
