CAMEROON Residents took justice into their own hands when they learned about a man who had raped a 5-year-old child. They stripped him naked and lynched him to death. Some kicked him, others beat him with a wooden pole, and others filmed this barbaric act on video.
Although street justice can sometimes evoke a sense of quick and effective justice, the opposite is true. Even the worst criminal has the right to a fair trial and punishment according to the law. Those who participate in a lynch often expose themselves to greater legal penalties in the eyes of the law than the perpetrator himself.
