17-year-old Kurdish girl stoned to death

MOSUL, IRAQ – APRIL 7, 2007 A 17-year-old Kurdish girl, Du’a Khalil Aswad, was brutally stoned to death by a mob in a small town near Mosul. It was so-called honor killing/execution. Du’a had a relationship with a 19-year-old Kurdish boy for about 4 months. The family did not recognize their relationship. The family’s anger escalated when Du’a did not return home one evening and stayed with the boy overnight.

When this information became public, her family had to have her killed so that the family honor would not be damaged. For 30 minutes after her, a crowd of people threw stones and kicked her. Most of the people who threw stones belong to her family. Her dead body was then dragged through the streets in a car and she was thrown into a pit along with the dead dog.
