Young siblings drowned after going outside to play with ball

HANOI, VIETNAM – JULY 30, 2025 Heartbreaking death of two brothers unfolded after their parents, in an urgent situation, left them alone at home. The children were clearly told not to leave the house, but curiosity and the lure of play got the better of them.

With help from a neighborhood friend, the boys managed to open the door and went outside to kick a ball. During the game, the ball rolled into a nearby pond. The younger brother waded in to retrieve it but quickly found himself in distress. His older brother, acting out of instinct and love, jumped in to save him – but neither of them made it out alive.

This senseless loss is a stark reminder of the importance of adult supervision and the need to teach children, even at a young age, how to recognize danger and respond to emergencies. Though their lives were cut short, the message from their story may help prevent future tragedies.
