STRASBOURG, FRANCE – JANUARY 11, 2025 Collision between two trams in a tunnel near Strasbourg’s main railway station resulted in injuries to approximately 50 people. The most serious injuries included head trauma, fractures, and sprains. Fifteen passengers were hospitalized, while around 100 others suffered shock or stress.
About 130 firefighters and 50 rescue vehicles responded to the scene. The city’s mayor thanked the emergency services for their swift action. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, with speculation that one of the trams might have been reversing at the time of the collision.
The incident attracted many witnesses, who quickly began recording the aftermath on their mobile phones. Social media was soon flooded with videos showing the scene and the efforts of rescue teams.
This is the first major tram accident in Strasbourg since the reintroduction of tram services in 1994. Thanks to the efficient response of emergency crews, the incident did not result in any fatalities. Residents were advised to avoid the area while cleanup and recovery operations were underway.
