JALGAON, INDIA – JANUARY 22, 2025 In the Maharashtra state, at least 12 passengers were killed and 10 others were injured in a tragic incident. The accident was near the Pardhade railway station, which is about 410 km northeast of Mumbai.
The mishap occurred when the Pushpak Express, which runs from Lucknow to Mumbai, came to a stop in emergency because some passengers had pulled the alarm chain in panic after sparks appeared in one of the coaches. This sparks may have developed from either a ‘hot axle’ or ‘brake blockage’. In the chaos, several passengers got off the train on to adjacent tracks and were hit by the coming Karnataka Express train.
The panic was caused by a tea vendor who falsely cried fire on the train, causing passengers to rush to get off. Pachora police were quick to respond and took the injured to a hospital in Pachora where they were treated.
The Indian government has extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and has placed an order for an investigation into the incident. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi said that the government is committed to upgrading the railway infrastructure to avoid such accidents in the future.
