CULIACÁN, SINALOA, MEXICO – MAY 6, 2026 Armed attack on a funeral procession occurred. An armed group attacked vehicles that were part of the procession and began shooting directly in the street. The attack took place in daylight in a busy part of the city, near a military checkpoint.
Two people were killed at the scene who were traveling in one of the vehicles designated for transporting flowers and wreaths, and another three people were injured. The attack took place in an area where security forces have been deployed for a long time, yet violence continues to occur repeatedly.
Culiacán and the entire Sinaloa region have long been associated with a high level of crime and clashes between armed groups. Despite the presence of the army and police checkpoints, attacks, murders, and kidnappings continue to occur.
