PHETCHABUN PROVINCE, THAILAND – AUGUST 2, 2017 Naiphum Promratee, 36, had fun teasing a bear in its enclosure during a visit to the zoo. He was lowering a bowl of rice down on a rope. The animal became enraged, stood on its hind legs and dragged Naiphum into the enclosure.
The bear bit and scratched him. Onlookers tried to stop the bear, but to no avail. The man was rescued and miraculously survived.
A wave of public criticism was unleashed on the zoo, alleging that the animals were poorly fed and the bear was hungry. According to PETA, a domesticated bear in a zoo should not attack people like this unless it is hungry.
