LINZ, AUSTRIA – OCTOBER 23, 2012 26-year-old Sandra Reiter was found dead in her apartment. She was hanging from an electrical cord from an iron on the doorknob. The medical examiner at the scene confirmed the cause of death as asphyxia from hanging. The case thus initially appeared to be a suicide.
But the victim’s mother expressed serious doubts that her daughter committed suicide. Sandra’s neighbors testified that on the day of her death they heard a loud argument coming from her apartment.
A forensic autopsy was ordered and found signs of a struggle on her body. It was also discovered that Sandra had maintained contact for several years with her ex, who still could not come to terms with the end of their relationship. This was the correct line of inquiry.
It was established that he was the one who strangled her and faked her body to make it look like a suicide. He almost succeeded.
