SIQUIRRES, LIMÓN PROVINCE, COSTA RICA – AUGUST 6, 2026 34-year-old Gerald Román was shot dead in the La Herediana area. According to investigators, he was at the business where he worked as a barber when a vehicle carrying several armed men arrived at the location. They repeatedly shot at him, and Román attempted to flee, but the attackers pursued him and continued firing. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including injuries to his head, abdomen, and legs, and died at the scene.
Shortly after the murder, police launched a search for the perpetrators and detained a 34-year-old man with the surname Mendoza in the La Francia de Siquirres area. According to police, he was driving the vehicle used in the escape. Officers also found an AK-47-type rifle inside the vehicle. Two other suspects managed to flee, and police are continuing to investigate the case.
