COLOMBIA Man was caught attempting to commit a theft, prompting a crowd of angry people to quickly surround and detain him until police arrived. However, the crowd also took matters into their own hands and beat him. One person even ran a motorcycle over his face, leaving him with a laceration to his ear.
While violence against a suspect may seem like a quick form of justice, vigilante punishment is a serious violation of human rights. Everyone is entitled to due process and to be punished according to the law. Never take part in such acts and leave suspected crimes to the police.
