CAMPO GRANDE, RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – DECEMBER 3, 2024 In Campo Grande, Rio de Janerio, fierce battles are currently raging between two drug gangs. The criminal faction Amigos dos Amigos (ADA) is expanding their reach and trying to push the original gangs out of the favelas in the area. The man in the photos is known as “Marcinho”, one of the most important people in the gang, which currently controls the favela of Serrinha do Mendanha.
The locals now live in daily fear for their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Some have difficulty getting to work because the access roads to the favelas are barricaded.
The government has so far made no comment on the incidents in the area. They have tried several times in the past to curb crime in the region, but each time to no avail. However, it is expected that minor steps will be taken by the government as the killing of one of the main gang leaders may escalate tensions.
