CHICAGO, USA – SEPTEMBER 4, 2012 Lil JoJo, born Joseph Coleman, was an American rapper from Chicago who gained fame early in his career for his rap skills and connection to the Chicago rap scene, particularly known for its drill music style. He faced difficult life circumstances from a young age, and his music reflected the harsh realities of his environment, including violence, poverty, and the daily struggle for survival.

Lil JoJo became well-known mainly for his song “3HunnaK,” which he recorded as part of a rivalry between different gangs in Chicago. The music he created expressed his attitude and experiences with the streets of the city, where violence and gang conflicts were a daily occurrence. His popularity grew due to his strong presence on social media, where he shared not only his music but also details about his life and the places he was in. However, this presence played a role in his tragic end.

On September 4, 2012, Lil JoJo, who at that time was not yet an established rapper, shared his location on social media, mentioning that he was in a particular area of Chicago. This post drew the attention of people who had personal or gang-related issues with JoJo. After JoJo was riding his bike, sitting on the handlebars, a car approached, and someone inside opened fire. The shots struck JoJo in the lower back, with one bullet traveling about 14 feet before hitting his heart. Though JoJo attempted to flee, he collapsed and died at the scene.

Surveillance footage shows a man pedaling a bicycle with JoJo sitting on the handlebars. Three cars follow them, with the first car opening fire on JoJo off-camera as the rider of the bike runs up the street.
