On the fateful day, 24 February 2022, she went on a speedboat cruise with a group of friends in Mueang Nonthaburi, a part of the Thai capital Bangkok. According to the official version, she was about to urinate in the river but went over the edge of the boat and drowned. Her body was found two days later.
Her death has become one of the most watched events in Thailand and has caused much controversy. When police interviewed witnesses from the boat, many gave very different accounts. Some of them even changed their statements.
When her body was found, she had a visible injury on her right thigh. Although it was probably caused by a propeller, for many people it is proof that she was killed by her friends on the boat.
Another fact that has only fueled the controversy over her death is the time that the group from the boat contacted rescue workers and police. They didn’t do so until 2 hours after she fell into the water. Some of them testified that they tried to find her on their own. Others said they had no phone signal. Several said their phones were off or dead.
Most of the people on the boat were connected to Thailand’s elite, which is why many people don’t trust the official conclusions of the police investigation. To this day, groups have sprung up on social media demanding justice for Tangmo.
