CAESAREA, ISRAEL – AUGUST 23, 2026 40-year-old Yanis Yushvaev, who was described by Israeli media as the leader of the so-called Caucasian mafia, was shot dead at a gas station near Caesarea, Israel. According to security camera footage, the attacker was waiting for him at the exit of the establishment and then shot him from behind in the head at close range. Yushvaev was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Yushvaev was well known to police and had previously been detained multiple times on suspicion of involvement in shootings, grenade attacks, and vehicle arson. However, he was never convicted in any of these cases. According to Israeli media, police considered him a prominent figure in organized crime and likely linked his murder to a conflict between criminal groups.

Two days after the murder, Israeli police announced the arrest of three people suspected of involvement in the case. They were detained in Hadera during a large-scale police operation and subsequently taken in for questioning. According to the information available so far, the shooter himself fled the scene.
