Angry mob decided to take justice into its own hands. Rather than calling the police, they lynched a suspected criminal in the street. The mob initially beat him before killing him by dropping a heavy stone on his head. It remains unclear exactly what the man was accused of. The incident took place somewhere in Africa, but the country is unknown.
In many parts of Africa, mob justice is seen as a common response to theft and other crimes. Due to corruption, people often have little faith in the authorities or police and believe that criminals will not be punished unless they take matters into their own hands. Unfortunately, that belief is sometimes reinforced by reality.
Regardless of the local circumstances, there is never a legitimate justification for lynching. It is a serious violation of human rights. Even someone accused of the most serious crime has the right to a fair trial and punishment in accordance with the law. Never take part in mob violence or lynching. If you witness a crime, contact the police instead.
