KACHIN, MYANMAR (BURMA) Myanmar’s military junta suffered a serious defeat after more than two-thirds of its supply fleet heading to the city of Bhamo was destroyed. The vessels lost not only their cargo but also their crews. The bodies of the junta’s slain soldiers were subsequently seen floating in the Irrawaddy River.
Bhamo is located in Kachin State in northern Myanmar, where intense fighting is taking place as part of the civil war. Since the military coup in February 2021, the junta has faced armed resistance from pro-democracy fighters and ethnic rebel organizations, including the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
The destruction of most of the supply fleet could significantly complicate the resupply and reinforcement of military units in the area. However, the exact number of vessels destroyed, casualties, and circumstances of the attack have not yet been independently verified.
