ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA – APRIL 30, 2011 Samantha Carolyn Sutton was a 22 year old girl who got into trouble and addiction with heavy drugs. Mostly she used heroin, but she didn’t despise cocaine either. She maintained a relationship with her boyfriend, Kevin Griffin, who apparently supported her in her addiction because he was an addict himself.

In February 2011, she got in trouble with the law because of her addiction. She was charged with possession and use of an illegal substance, for which she faced jail time. But the judge took pity on her young life and decided to help her instead of punishing her. Instead of jail, he sent her to a rehabilitation facility where she was to undergo forced detox and kick her addiction. She herself was motivated by this and even ended her relationship with Kevin because of it.

When she completed detox and was released from the rehab facility, her addiction overcame her again and she went back to Kevin. She injected heroin, fell asleep, but never woke up. Kevin found her dead the next morning.

Similar cases of opiate addiction are not that uncommon. After a while of abstinence, the body is no longer used to the drugs, and if a drug user injects the same dose they used to, it’s usually a lethal dose. But this case was different and raised many unanswered questions about her death.

While the autopsy showed the presence of drugs in her blood, it was ruled out that heroin was behind her death. The medical examiners determined the cause of death to be an antidepressant (citalopram), which she had been prescribed.

Also suspicious was the behavior of her boyfriend Kevin, who did not call 911 until 35 minutes after he found her dead. He did not emphasize the urgency of the situation at all at the beginning of the call and it even came out that he had posthumously tampered with her body.

Despite the Samantha Carolyn Sutton case causing controversy and there being a group of people who believe Kevin is directly responsible for her death and are calling for justice, he has never been charged. His strange behavior was officially explained away by fear of the consequences of having drugs in the house.
