KOTAMOBAGU, NORTH SULAWESI, INDONESIA – AUGUST 9, 2026 During the Tidar Drag Race Championship, a tragedy occurred. A Honda Jazz driven by racer Tian Ngantung crossed the finish line, but shortly afterward it ran into trouble and the car began veering uncontrollably off the track.
The vehicle turned left, broke through a protective barrier, and crashed into spectators standing behind it. The consequences were tragic – eight people died and another nine were injured. One of the injured later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
The race was immediately stopped after the accident. Police are now investigating the exact cause of the loss of control and are also examining the safety measures and organization of the entire race. According to police, driver Tian Ngantung may be designated as a suspect as part of the investigation.
