MYANMAR (BURMA), 2024 Footage shows victims of the civil war in Myanmar. Unfortunately, the video does not make it clear which side of the conflict they belong to. However, it undeniably highlights the cruelty and futility of war.
Civil war in Myanmar is a long-standing conflict between the Myanmar military (Tatmadaw) and various ethnic armed groups, ongoing since the country gained independence in 1948. Tensions escalated further after the 2021 military coup, when the army overthrew the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. This led to widespread resistance against the junta, including the formation of new armed groups like the People’s Defense Forces (PDF), which are engaged in guerrilla warfare. The conflict has caused a humanitarian crisis, mass displacement, and severe repression of civilians.
