MYANMAR (BURMA) Members of the BGF (Border Guard Force), which operates under the Myanmar military, fell into an ambush set by the KIA (Kachin Independence Army), an ethnic armed organization. All of them were killed, and their bodies were found in a charred state.
The war in Myanmar is an armed conflict between the military junta, which seized power in a coup in February 2021, and various rebel groups seeking the restoration of democracy, autonomy for ethnic minorities, or independence for their territories. Fighting against the military are both newly formed pro-democracy militias and long-established ethnic armed organizations, such as the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). The conflict follows decades of civil wars and is characterized by intense fighting, airstrikes, the burning of villages, and widespread displacement of civilians.
