EL PAISNAL, EL SALVADOR – MARCH 16, 2026 Tragic traffic accident on El Salvador’s Troncal del Norte Highway claimed the life of a 29-year-old driver. His car collided head-on with Route 170 bus near the El Tule Bridge. The bus was traveling from the department of Chalatenango to the capital, San Salvador. The force of the impact completely destroyed the front of the passenger car, leaving the driver trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene immediately and had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to free the victim. Despite their efforts, the man died at the scene from his injuries. A passenger in the car was also injured, and several other people, including the bus conductor, suffered minor injuries or medical issues.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. According to preliminary information, the driver of the passenger car may have been traveling at an excessive speed, while some witnesses stated that he had been making a dangerous overtaking maneuver before the collision.
