VITÓRIA DE SANTO ANTÃO, PERNAMBUCO, BRAZIL – OCTOBER 10, 2024 Around 7:30 PM, a 74-year-old man, José Severino Leite, was fatally struck while attempting to cross the BR-232 highway at kilometer 45. He was hit by a truck.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. A breathalyzer test showed negative results, ruling out alcohol consumption prior to the accident.
Federal Highway Police (PRF), Military Police, and the Forensic Institute (IC) were present at the scene. Mr. Leite’s body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) for further examination.
This incident highlights the dangers of crossing busy highways, especially in areas lacking pedestrian crossings or appropriate overpasses. Authorities are urging increased caution when navigating high-risk sections like the BR-232.
