CHINA A former high-ranking statesman was sentenced to death for having his mistress murdered. He was convicted of ordering his nephew, a police officer, to plant explosives in her car. He did, and her vehicle exploded as she drove down a busy street. The woman was killed instantly and the explosion injured two bystanders and damaged several cars. The reason given was that she had pressured him to marry her. She had videotaped them having sex and planned to blackmail him with it.
