MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA – JUNE 23, 2026 22-year-old Mayank Lohar was returning home from work on a crowded suburban train, just like on any other day. The journey, which was supposed to be routine, turned into a tragedy within minutes. Due to heavy monsoon rain, an argument broke out inside the train car over whether the train doors should remain open or closed.
The verbal conflict between Mayank and another passenger quickly escalated. According to police information, the other man, identified as Roshan Suvarna, pulled out a knife and, in a fit of rage, stabbed Mayank multiple times in the abdomen and chest area. The attack took place on a moving train between the Andheri railway station and Borivali railway station stations while dozens of other passengers stood nearby.
The most shocking part of the entire incident is the video that began spreading widely on social media. It captures the bloody aftermath of the attack and the chaos inside the train car. Many people stepped back in panic, but no one directly stopped the attacker. This has sparked a debate in India about why fear and inaction often prevail in crisis situations.
After the attack, the perpetrator jumped off the train before it came to a complete stop and attempted to flee. However, police tracked him down and arrested him after an extensive search during which they analyzed hundreds of CCTV camera recordings. The case has sparked massive outrage across the country, and Mayank’s family is now demanding the harshest possible punishment.
