BRAZIL Military police officers took out a gang member who was guarding the entrance to a favela. He was killed by several precisely aimed shots to the heart.
Favelas are gang-controlled territories where nationally and internationally wanted criminals often hide, and where drug trafficking frequently takes place. Police normally have no access to these areas, and when they need to enter a favela, they must organize special operations, during which blood is often shed.
Each favela has its own guards stationed at access points, monitoring movement. As soon as an unauthorized person or police appear, they do not hesitate to shoot.
