BOLTON, CONNECTICUT, USA – MARCH 1, 2025 Officers received a report that 29-year-old Maxim Nowak had a mental breakdown at a home on Meadow Road. He grabbed a knife, brandished it around and threatened not only himself, but others as well.
When officers, Wendy Garcia-Campos, Doug Bernier and Brian Contenta, arrived on the scene, the situation was just as the report described. They found Nowak in the hallway armed with two knives. He refused to drop the knives despite repeated challenges.
The moment he made an unpredictable movement with his left hand, the officers assessed the situation as dangerous and Bernier used a Taser and Contenta shot him several times.
Nowak was transported in serious condition to the hospital, where he has been receiving treatment until now. The officer who used the weapon is currently under investigation to determine if he was authorized to do so. However, he is likely to be acquitted of any blame because he reacted in danger of his own life.
