EL ORO PROVINCE, ECUADOR – OCTOBER 9, 2026 Five fishermen died and another was injured in an attack by armed men on a fishing boat in waters near the port of Puerto Bolívar. The incident occurred at around 2 a.m.
According to local media, the attackers stopped the boat, boarded it, and opened fire on the resting crew. The vessel subsequently returned to port with the victims on board, where forensic medical personnel took custody of the bodies.
Police believe robbery may have been the motive for the attack, but the circumstances remain under investigation. The injured fisherman was taken to a medical facility in Guayaquil. His condition and the identities of the victims were not disclosed in available reports.
