KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – JANUARY 16, 2025 Tragic incident occurred in a building known as Yoke Yew in the centre of Kuala Lumpur. A man of foreign nationality decided to commit suicide and climbed over the railing on the 15th floor. He held it for a while and people tried to persuade him to change his mind. When one tried to grab his arm, he jumped down.
There is an important lesson from the video. Never make quick movements towards a suicidal person, don’t touch him and deal with him calmly. In most cases, it’s worth waiting for a police patrol that is prepared for situations like this. Frantic behavior leads to frantic reactions. If you feel that the police cannot arrive on the scene in time, do not grab the suicide by the arm. Life is not a movie and you can’t hold that weight. The ideal is to catch the torso in multiple people, or to shift its center of gravity in the right direction.
If you’re thinking about suicide, please stop and recognize that your pain is not permanent, but this step would be. It may feel like there’s no other way, but there is hope, even if it’s hard to see right now. Your feelings are temporary, and with help, they can pass.
Talking about what you're going through might feel difficult, but it’s the first step toward healing. Don’t turn away from the people who want to support you. Life can offer more than what you're feeling right now, and the pain doesn't have to last forever. You deserve help, and it’s available.
