MANILA, PHILIPPINES – MARCH, 2017 Shiryl Anabe Saturnino, 29, underwent plastic surgery at The Icon Clinic in Mandaluyong City under the guidance of two plastic surgeons, Jose Jovito Mendiola and Samuel Eric Yapjuangco. The plastic surgery involved liposuction of her abdomen and the transfer of her own fat to her breasts and buttocks. However, serious complications arose during the surgery. Her body probably couldn’t take the amount of intervention combined with the general anesthesia and her heart stopped beating. The totally unprepared doctors still tried to revive her mouth-to-mouth breathing, but to no avail. They called in other doctors from a nearby medical center, but when they arrived on the scene, they pronounced Shiryl dead.
Although it may seem strange from an American or European point of view to take pictures of the deceased at a funeral, in this part of the world it is perfectly normal. The photos serve as a last memory of that person.
