Gary Plauché shoots his son’s rapist

BATON ROUGE, LOUSIANA, USA – MARCH 16, 1984 Gary Plauché was an American who became famous for murdering the man who kidnapped and raped his son, 11-year-old Jody Plauché.

The incident occurred at the airport in Baton Rouge, where the rapist, 25-year-old Jeff Doucet, was escorted by police from California, where he was arrested. Gary didn’t trust the justice system and planned his murder. He waited unnoticed at the pay phone at the airport, and as the officers and Jeff Doucet walked past him, he turned and with one precisely aimed shot to the head, killed him. All of this was captured on video by television cameras.

Plauché was immediately arrested, but walked away from court with only a sentence of community service and probation. The judge took into account his orderly life, his unpunished past and the circumstances of the case. In the eyes of many Americans, he was a hero.

Jeff Doucet was a karate instructor who taught kids at a local school. He met Jody Plauché there and soon enough gained his trust. He gradually built a stronger relationship with him, but also with his whole family, who trusted him completely. They never noticed any warning signs.

One day, however, he drove Jody to California and directly asked him to call his parents and tell them that everything was fine. While in California, he repeatedly sexually abused him. Fortunately, the police were able to locate the exact hotel by phone number. Doucet was arrested and Jody was found physically unharmed but with great psychological damage.

Currently, Jody Plauché is an activist against sexual abuse. In 2019, he published a book titled “Why, Gary, Why?” detailing his abduction, abuse, and the aftermath for him and his entire family.
