MOZAMBIQUE – FEBRUARY, 2026 Terrorists from the African branch of the infamous ISIS attacked an army convoy on the N380 road near the village of Quinto Congresso on February 22. A 3-day battle followed, lasting until February 25. The Islamic State claimed through its information channels that they managed to kill 14 soldiers of the Mozambican-Rwandan coalition. Photos show some of them. The death toll on the ISIS side is unknown.
In recent years, Mozambique has been plagued by the activities of extremist terrorist groups such as ISIS or al-Shabaab. The country has huge natural gas deposits, but local residents feel they will see none of that wealth. Terrorists often exploit this frustration to recruit new members.
When the situation in Mozambique worsened significantly in 2017, their army was so weak and ineffective that they had to call in Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group for help. However, they failed in the fight against the terrorists and had to withdraw. Cooperation with Rwanda, which sends its specially trained units to the country, helped significantly.
