CRUZ DAS ALMAS, BAHIA, BRAZIL – JUNE 24, 2025 21-year-old woman was hit in the head by a firework during the São João festival with such force that she lay motionless on the ground in critical condition. She was transported by a medical team to the Hospital Geral do Estado in Salvador, where doctors fought for her life. Updates on her condition are not yet available.
She was using an “espada junina,” an object shaped like a sword from which fireworks are launched during traditional celebrations and festivals. However, she did not follow the safety guidelines and did not point the device toward the sky, but was waving it around instead.
