In connection with her murder, 25-year-old security officer Satri Johanda was arrested. He confessed to the crime, claiming the victim owed him money – about 3.5 million Indonesian rupiah (approximately 210 USD). He said he killed her after an argument and dismembered her body, dumping the parts into the river to cover his tracks.

However, Indonesian investigators are no amateurs. Forensic psychologists know well that mutilation of female genitalia is not usually done by perpetrators with motives like those Satri mentioned. Such acts are typically committed by sexual deviants. They began to investigate unsolved murder cases and pointed out that there is suspicion the perpetrator may be connected to the disappearance of several young women from January 2024. They may have just caught a serial killer.
