GARLAND, TEXAS, UNITED STATES – MAY 3, 2026 Violent incident occurred in which a man suspected of previous rampage at a gas station was shot during an attempted car theft. According to police, 30-year-old José Ramírez, illegal migrant, first attempted to violently take several vehicles before heading to a nearby store, where he attacked a family sitting in a car.
The vehicle belonged to a father who was traveling with his family, including a small child. Ramírez allegedly forcibly pulled him from the driver’s seat and tried to take over the car. At that moment, the father pulled out a gun and fired several shots. The attacker was later taken to the hospital, where he died.
Police stated that although the man was not armed, he was actively using physical force and the situation unfolded very quickly. The father of the family remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators and was not charged. According to police, everything suggests it may have been an act of self-defense.
