When his wife, Anandi Devi, and son, Gokul Singh Rathore, heard the gunshot, they immediately rushed to the spot along with neighbours. But it was clear that there was no way they could help him.
His family members said the man had been struggling with severe mental problems for a long time. His younger brother, Shekhar Singh Rathore, said Chanchal was paranoid and terrified of the idea that someone was chasing him and wanted to kill him. Recently, he said he had even started hiding in various places around the house.
Cases like this show how fatal the consequences of untreated mental problems can be. Nowadays, unfortunately, there is still shame in people going to a psychiatrist or a psychologist. But no one is ashamed to go to a doctor. It’s the same thing, but a psychiatrist is a doctor for the soul.
