PORTLAND, OREGON, USA – JULY 20, 2022 27-year-old Portland resident Katie Guzenko, originally from Ukraine, was struck by a stray bullet in the face during the day near Southeast 130th Avenue and Powell Boulevard. She was driving her car when she became caught in a shootout. One of the stray bullets flew through her car window and hit her in the face. Immediately after, she recorded a chilling video showing her face covered in blood. Although the footage looks terrifying, she actually suffered only minor injuries. Nevertheless, it can be considered an enormous stroke of luck.

The paradox of the situation is that Katie’s family, living in the war-torn environment of Ukraine, is now worried about her safety in the U.S. They begged her to return home.
Portland has long ranked as one of the cities with the highest crime rates in the U.S. The crime rate there is 2.2 times higher than the national average, with dozens of shooting incidents recorded every month.
