Kidnappings are a widespread security problem in Nigeria. These incidents do not involve only individual victims but also mass abductions of dozens or even hundreds of people. Armed bandit groups operate in the country, kidnapping people for ransom. However, abductions carried out by terrorist groups such as ISWAP are also common and are often motivated by political or religious reasons.
