VILLEJEAN, RENNES, FRANCE – APRIL 10, 2024 Group of approximately ten attackers assaulted a 21-year-old man on a scooter with punches, kicks, and helmet strikes, nearly leaving him for dead. One of the attackers even took a photo of the victim. The man sustained injuries requiring 15 days of recovery.
Police launched an investigation into the assault, suspecting it might be a drug-related vendetta. The victim’s scooter was found at the scene, indicating that theft was not the motive.
On May 26, 2024, a series of arrests were carried out in Rennes. Among those arrested was a 45-year-old woman charged with participation in a criminal conspiracy aimed at preparing a crime; she was released on bail and faces up to 10 years in prison. Six other men aged 17 to 26 were charged with attempted murder by an organized group and participation in a criminal conspiracy. They were taken into custody and face life imprisonment. The prosecutor stated that investigations are ongoing to identify all participants in the incident.
