BRAZIL Random bystanders filmed a man in severe agonizing pain after he suffered a serious injury to his abdomen. He had a deep, bleeding laceration that also cut through the tissues that support the intestines. The cause of his injuries is unknown, but the clean cut suggests that he may have been attacked with a sharp object such as a machete.
The behavior of the witnesses, who chose to record a video rather than provide first aid, can be considered shocking. In similar cases, always call an ambulance to the scene first and follow the instructions of the emergency operator. Generally, however, if the intestines are not protruding from the wound, pressure can be applied to the wound to stop the bleeding. If the intestines are protruding, never push them back into the abdomen.
